Therapeutic Exercise

Therapeutic exercise is a critical element in the rehabilitation process or athletic performance conditioning. Each treatment plan we develop for our patients is individualized depending on his or her impairments, symptoms, and goals, and includes a customized therapeutic exercise component.  South Bay Rehabilitation therapists have extensive experience working with our patients and educating them how to do the exercises properly.

Some of the therapeutic exercises that we incorporate into treatment programs include:

  • Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Training: We create individual exercises to help our patients with daily activities that they are struggling with, such as walking/gait and sit-to-stand (for example, bending down to do the laundry).
  • Postural training, awareness, endurance, and strength.
  • Body mechanics training to help patients increase their awareness of position of body while moving, for example supine to sitting, sit to stand, walking, running, etc.
  • Balance/coordination/neuromuscular re-education. This includes different balance exercises to retrain the brain for greater visual ability, balance, or one’s sense of their relative position and movement of neighboring parts of the body and muscle tension.
  • Sport-specific training such as golf, tennis, etc. to build strength, flexibility, endurance, balance for enhanced performance.
  • Individualized progressive strengthening, which includes slowing building strength to reach one’s potential following generalized weakness or an injury.
  • Core strengthening and stabilization programs which focus on core strengthening.
  • Gait training to increase strength, proper gait mechanics, range of motion, balance, coordination, and endurance
